Posted @withregram • @cglartschool We were thrilled to see Roberta De Caro, Glass Fellow and BA Fine Art and MA Art & Material Histories alumna, featured in the Autumn/Winter 2024 edition of @craftsmagazine.

In the feature, @robertadecaroart discusses her artistic journey, her introduction to the medium of glass, explored throughout her studies at @cglartschool and @royalcollegeofart, and her project ‘From the Fragment to the Whole’. This socially engaged art initiative comprises a series of workshops for domestic abuse survivors, using glass as a metaphor for the process of rebuilding one’s life after domestic abuse.

Roberta’s latest work, Lacrimonium (2024), is a series of glass sculptures with a form at the centre: a bottle for holding tears. One of the series, ‘Tears for Breakfast, 2024’ (Images 4-5), is currently on display at the inaugural group show of Norito Gallery, 19b Beak Street, Soho.

Yi Sang, a key figure in modern Korean literature, is known for his avant-garde and surrealist style, which broke from traditional literary forms. 《Through the shattered mirror of Yi Sang》 was inspired by a conversation with Ryu, one of the featured artists, about works based on Yi Sang’s poetry. The exhibition bridges literature and visual art, reintroducing the tradition of their close interaction while addressing the historical divide between the two in Eastern contexts.

Drawing from Yi Sang’s recurring motif of the ‘mirror’, the exhibition unfolds as a surreal narrative, exploring identity, memory, and emotion through the metaphor of reflection and fragmentation.
