Basic Fused Glass Techniques

Fused Glass Bowl

Basic Fused Glass Techniques is a series of workshops for those who have already been introduced to fused glass, either through one of my Introduction to Fused Glass workshops or through previous experience elsewhere. Each session focuses on a particular project, introducing new ways of working with glass and gradually expanding your knowledge of the material.

If this sounds like you, you are in the right place! The workshops offer the freedom to experiment, work at your own pace and gradually find your own way of working with glass.

The sessions are fun and friendly, with plenty of information and guidance without becoming too theoretical.

  • £50 for a 2.5 hour session or 3 sessions for £120 inclusive of all tools and equipment, refreshments, tuition and kiln firing.
  • A student materials pack can be purchased when booking each workshop. The pack contains the glass and other materials needed for that particular project. As you become more confident, you can also begin choosing and purchasing your own glass, either from the studio or from recommended suppliers.

Saturday 3 October 2026 · 10.30am–1pm ; Fused Glass Sun Catcher

During this session, we will build on your previous knowledge to create a sun catcher following a specific design. We will practise our cutting skills and continue exploring the different textures that can be achieved using glass sheet, stringers, cabochons and frits.

We will also look at the different finishes that can be achieved by firing the glass at different temperatures.

We will focus on learning more about the different finishes that can be achieved with different firing temperatures.

Saturday 10 October 2026 · 10.30am–1pm; Fused Glass Jewellery

In this session, we will refine our cutting skills to create jewellery. We will make pendants and earrings by contrasting coloured glass and dichroic glass, using stringers to create exciting designs. We will also explore ways of incorporating metal into our designs.

This session will focus on higher-temperature firings (full fuse) to create tactile, rounded forms that make attractive pieces of jewellery. We will also consider the connection between colour and meaning.

Saturday 17 October 2026 · 10.30am–1pm; Fused Glass Coasters

In this session, we will create a pair of fused glass coasters, focusing on precision cutting and the interplay of block colour and line. We will use glass sheet and stringers to create elegant designs.

We will learn more about how glass behaves at high temperatures and how to maintain the desired shape during firing.

Saturday 24 October 2026 · 10.30am–1pm; Fused Glass Homeware · Exploring Three-Dimensional Forms

In this session, we will make a three-dimensional piece of homeware. We will learn how to create flat glass forms that can then be slumped into a mould to create small curved dishes and bowls.

This session will be an opportunity to understand how glass behaves – and sometimes misbehaves! – in the kiln, and to explore the relationship between temperature and firing time that allows the material to slump into a three-dimensional form.

Coming soon…

Across the series, we will explore different ways of working with the material – from cutting and assembling glass, to working with powders and frits, creating relief and three-dimensional forms, experimenting with colour reactions, and exploring how different firing temperatures affect the finished piece.

Further workshops will explore techniques including metal inclusion, powder migration, reactive glass and more.

The sessions run every Saturday (term time only) 10:30 am – 1 pm until Saturday 12th December 2026 included.

More details of the upcoming sessions will be published soon.
