Oh Sole Mio

Creating an installation can itself become a participatory art project!

It certainly was the case for Feminine, Plural, which required an investment of £1800 to purchase the soap needed to create an installation that deals with isolation and female barriers in society.

No sponsorship was offered, nor a minimal discount for a large order was available ( Reckitt Benckiser are not keen on importing) so the only other option was to raise funds .. and we all know how hard that is nowadays where finances are so tight for everybody…So that’s when the idea came to me to ask not for money but for soap! I proposed to borrow the soap for my installation until the end of the City & Guilds of London Art School Degree Show 2019, when I would return it to the rightful owners…. My ‘soap-raising campaign’ was launched on Facebook

And continued for a few weeks until I reached £1890.00 which allowed me to include extra costs and bring it to fruition.

As a result of this the installation is co-owner by over 40 people who are all part of it!   I love the poetry of a communal action to create art that deals with isolation…
